THE Department of Social Welfare Development (DSWD) Field Office VI released P7.1 million in transportation assistance to Boracay’s displaced workers.

Latest records of the agency, as of 10 p.m. of May 1, 2018, the amount was received by 3,115 individuals.

“I am congratulating my team for the hard work that they have done. It is supposed to be a non-working day but they rendered duty from 6 a.m. up to 7 p.m. to cater to all,” said Rebecca P. Geamala, regional director.

The DSWD has transferred its Operation Center, where the aid is being released, at Faith Village, Station 3 in the island.

“We are continuously improving our systems. At this point, we are personally going to the barangays to conduct assembly in preparation for implementation of livelihood projects,” she said.
These livelihood projects include Cash for Work and Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP).

Cash for Work is implemented during calamities by providing cash to the people in exchange of work rendered.

SLP, on the other hand, is a community-based capacity building program that aims to improve the socio-economic condition of poor Filipinos by facilitating opportunities for development and management of resources viable for micro-enterprises and employment facilitation./dswd6
