Following just a simple text and chat brigade, volunteers from the Boracay community answered the call for assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on its ongoing release of transportation allowance.

The mobilization of local volunteers in Boracay has helped in the management of the crowd during the ongoing assessment, verification and releasing of funds for the meals and transportation assistance for the displaced workers here. Volunteers were composed of civil society organizations (CSO) and stakeholders in the island.

Four staff from the Philippine Red Cross –Boracay Malay Chapter staff and five from the Boracay Fire Rescue and Ambulance Volunteer (BFRAV) volunteered to provide emergency first aid assistance during the activity.

Through the Boracay Foundation Inc. (BFI), two staff of Boracay Water also provided potable drinking water for workers and DSWD staff.

The management of the Faith Village, the operation center of DSWD also offered snacks for the volunteers.

To ensure peace and order, 28 police personnel from Metro Boracay Task Force Group were also assigned in the venue.

Despite the influx of displaced workers, the crowd was managed by both the DSWD staff and Boracay volunteers.

The text brigade was initiated by a staff of the DSWD and the alumni of the United States government from Panay./dswd6
