The Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office VI had suspended the releasing of educational assistance effective immediately.

“We have exhausted the funds,” said DSWD6 Regional Director, Rebecca P. Geamala.

Geamala sad that this will be an indefinite suspension of educational assistance until such time that the office gets an additional funding from the Central Office.

ASSISTANCE FOR MEDICAL, TRANSPORTATION AND BURIAL CONTINUES

Although the educational assistance was temporarily suspended, Geamala assured however that the assistance for burial, medical and transportation continues.

The medical and burial assistance can be availed by the poor and vulnerable sector and individuals in crisis situation.

Requirements for medical assistance include Clinical abstract or Medical certificate (issued from the last three months); hospital bill, reseta, or laboratory request; Barangay Certificate of Residency or Indigency and client’s valid ID; and a referral letter (if needed).

Requirements for burial assistance include Funeral Contract, Death Certificate, Barangay Certificate of Residency or Indigency, any valid ID, and Permit to Transfer or Health Permit (if needed to be buried in other areas).

The transportation assistance can be availed by individuals who are in desperate need to travel due to a death of a family member or to go home and reside in a hometown permanently.

Requirements for transportation assistance include Barangay Certificate of Residency or Indigency or any valid ID of the client and a Police blotter (for those who are victims of pick pockets, illegal recruitment, etc.)

ENHANCING FRONTLINE SERVICES

The Crisis Intervention Unit (CIU) of DSWD6 is based in the frontline service in giving intervention to individuals in crisis situation through providing aid in form of medical, educational, burial, and transportation assistance.

To strengthen its capability and efficiency in social services, the CIU recently conducted a Capability Building Workshop for its employees who are the ‘frontliners’ in giving assistance to the public.

The training workshop lasted for three days from October 9-11, 2017 at SEDA Hotel, Atria Park, Mandurriao, Iloilo City.

Aquilina Gaitan, Unit Head of the CIU said that the CapBuild was administered in order to improve the quality of DSWD6’s frontline service delivery. “The CIU staff are expected to develop their adeptness in providing satisfactory first-hand assistance to the clients,” she added.

Furthermore, Rebecca P. Geamala, Regional Director of DSWD Field Office VI, highlighted in her remarks, “We must always treat the people kindly. That is the most important task for you. We would want the clients to leave the office satisfied and with smiles on their faces.”/XzyrabelleServento/dswd6/
