This year, the Department of Social Welfare and Development – Field Office 6 (DSWD-FO6) hosted the midterm Project Review and Evaluation Workshop or Mid-PREW for the Reporting System and Prevention Program for Elder Abuse Cases or otherwise known as ReSPPEC.

The said event that was spearheaded by the Social Technology Bureau from the Central Office in Manila was held as a four-day workshop dated June 20-23, 2017 at Casa Pilar Beach Resort, Boracay in the province of Aklan.

Done to review and assess the development and current condition of the program (ReSPPEC) the participants from the four pilot regions (Region I, Region VI, Region XI, and the National Capital Region) showcased their chapter’s performance regarding ReSPPEC, celebrated and recognized regional accomplishments, and were refreshed of their roles and responsibilities and the program’s basic principles and objectives more importantly.

 

On the first workshop day, the participants which were a mix of delegates from Field Offices, Municipal links and Barangay components, were oriented of the four-day workshop activities where they shared their expectations as well. Each participating regions also showcased their accomplishments through setting up an exhibit for gallery viewing.

Day two was devoted to review and evaluation of the project ReSPPEC. The participants were grouped according to office levels to view ReSPPEC perspectives according to the offices’ roles. The delegates ended the long day by harvesting lessons and opportunities for improvement which gave them a chance to view the brainstorming results on each of their chapter’s perspective.

The third day of the workshop was focused into training the participants in producing good practices and human interest stories with regards to social marketing. They were also engaged in establishing their regional action plan for organizational and systematical improvements. Day 3 also highlights the Socials Night where each region performed some entertaining numbers.

Finally, the activity in its fourth day was concluded through an open forum and the overall summary and synthesis of the workshop which was lead by Ms. Marilyn Moral, Division Chief and STB ReSPPEC Project Focal.

The closing of the event was also graced by the STB Director, Thelsa Biolena, who gave an inspiring message and officiated the Pagtataya or the Commitment Setting of the DSWD employees and their component Barangays, joining hands for the success of the project ReSPPEC.

Likened to the sound of the word respect or paggalang, pertaining to the elderlies, ReSPPEC aims to potect the rights of the elderly against all forms of abuse by having the right to know how in detecting elder abuse and ways of preventing it, and the establishment of local reporting mechnisms and referral system in order to provide services for their full rehabilitation and recovery.

Though ReSPPEC is just in its first year of implementation, Region VI Social Technology Bureau Unit Head, Aquilina Gaitan assured that Region VI STB, together with its pilot Barangay in Lambunao, is ready and prepared both for future shortcomings and most especially for its success./XzyrabelleServento/dswd6/
