NINE Guimarasnons recently received their Centenarian gift amounting to P100,000.
Director Rebecca Geamala of DSWD Field Office VI handed the incentives to the elderly and their immediate family.
Amounting to a total of P900,000, Guimaras is the second province to receive the gift after Iloilo’s 109 centenarians received theirs a week earlier.
“I would buy a dress,” said one centenarian.
“I would buy a very big house just like the one that my mother has,” said another.
Geamala, in her message, called on the families of the recipients “to use the money for the use of the centenarians. Buy them milk, vitamins and medicines that they need. Ask them what they want. We want them to enjoy the money.”
Two of them bought immediately wheelchairs after the awarding ceremony for easier mobility.
Also present during the activity was Governor Samuel Gumarin, DSWD Protective Service Unit head Rosario Sanagustin and Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Shirly Gabutin./dswd6/May Grecia Rago
