She has been diagnosed with asthma for over 14 years that causes some health complications to Rona Jamona of Brgy. Buntatala, Leganes, Iloilo.
Unexpectedly, she got pregnant despite of her unhealthy condition.
After giving birth to her seventh child, Rona and her husband decided to entrust their child to Rona’s childless brother so that the baby could be given enough care.
Rona is married to Allan, who is working as laborer in a rice mill. The couple has six more children.
Her husband’s meager income could not substantiate the daily needs of their growing family especially the school expenses of their other children. As a result, their eldest son has temporarily stopped from college and now helping on their daily house chores. Their two other daughters, one in college while the other one in high school, are both working as house helpers at their aunt house so they could have an allowance for the next school day.
Luckily, Rona’s family has been included in the Pantawid Pamilya wherein three of her children in elementary were covered by the program almost two years ago.
One of the program’s conditionalities is to submit themselves into periodical check-up which easily help monitor Rona’s health status.
Since she has no worries on the education of her three children, she was able to save some of her husband’s income for the school fees of their other children not covered by the program.
Rona is mostly the one attending the Family Development Session (FDS) which helped her to realize the importance of practicing a healthy lifestyle.
In fact, Rona is more particular of what she eats now because she needs to be strong and healthy for the sake of her children.
Presently, Rona is also maintaining a vegetable garden at their backyard to make sure that nutritious food is being served to their table as well as to help her husband in some little way.
Rona is now physically fit to work and now engaged into swine fattening for extra income. She also shared her secret of fast recovery to other co-beneficiaries.//dswd/MGC
