THE DSWD6 provided relief goods to victims of fire in Molo district.
“We have immediately provided relief goods to augment to the fire victims in Barangay North San Jose, Molo,Iloilo City,” said Rose Sanagustin, Head of the Protective Services Unit (PSU), DSWD 6.
According to Sanagustin the agency has provided the fire victims 100 food packs, 50 malongs, 50 blankets and 50 mosquito nets right after the said incident in the barangay.
Earlier reports showed that more than 30 families were left homeless by the incident.
“Under RA 10121, the DSWD is mandated to provide augmentation support to Local Government Units (LGUs) and assist in capacitating them to handle emergencies or calamities,” Sanagustin added.
She explained that Under RA 7160 or the Local Government Code of 1991, LGUs have the responsibility to undertake rescue operations, provide immediate relief assistance, and set-up and manage evacuation centers at the first instance of disaster occurrence.
“Though, we are not the first responder, the agency is always prepared and always ready to provide immediate assistance to local government units,” she finally added. /dswd6/MerryJezzelBrendia
