THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has invested a total of P252 million in livelihood assistance for Capiznons.
Anthony Laruan of the DSWD Field Office VI Sustainable Livelihood Program unit said that this amount was invested to beneficiaries of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program and survivors of typhoon Yolanda.
“The DSWD uses the convergence strategy which means we are pouring out all our resources to the poor so that they will be empowered to get out of poverty,” said Laruan.
If broken down, P112 million was released for the implementation of Cash for Building Livelihood Assets (CBLA), P88 million for seed capital fund and P52 million for skills training.
CBLA is implemented for creation, development, protection or rehabilitation of livelihood. This is usually implemented in Yolanda-affected areas.
Seed capital fund, on the other hand, refers to a start-up capital for new or existing enterprise managed by a Sustainable Livelihood Association.
Skills training includes teaching and coaching the beneficiaries various skills such as baking, carpentry, wielding, sewing, housekeeping, hotel and restaurant management and other capabilities./dswd6/May Grecia-Rago
