THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has reminded parents to give children time to play.
“When I was a child, I remember how my parents allowed me to play while others were restrained. Play is important for children,” said Ma. Evelyn B. Macapobre, regional director of DSWD Region 6, during the Children’s Congress recently held at Sarabia Manor Hotel and Convention Center.
Macapobre said that instead of controlling the kids from playing, they, instead should be allowed playtime.
“Play helps children in their development,” Macapobre said.
The basic rights of children include the right to be born, to have a name and a nationality; to have a family who will love and care; to live in a peaceful community and a wholesome environment; to have enough food and a healthy and active body; to have good education and develop potential; to be given opportunities for play and leisure; to be protected against abuse, exploitation, neglect, violence and danger; to be assisted and defended by the government and to be able to express own views./dswd6/May Grecia-Rago
