TWO hundred beneficiaries of programs under the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office VI (DSWD6) were given new cellular phones and start-up livelihood capital by telecommunications giant, Globe Telecom.

Apples Evangelista of Globe Telecom said the partnership with DSWD6 is “part of the company’s recovery and rehabilitation assistance to survivors of super typhoon Yolanda.”

“Nung bumagyo, na-apektuhan ang mga malilit na negosyo nila. Ito ay tulong namin sa muli nilang pagbangon (Their small businesses were affected during the typhoon. This is our way of helping them recover),” she said.

The recipients come from Roxas City in Capiz province, and in Malay, Aklan. All received new cellphone units, a retailer sim wallet with P1,000 start-up load, 10 sim cards, retailer’s notebook and tarpaulins.

In Roxas City, all 100 recipients are beneficiaries of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program. While in Aklan, 89 are beneficiaries of Self-Employment Assistance-Kaunlaran (SEA-K) and the rest are under the Pantawid Pamilya program.

SEA-K and Pantawid Pamilya are two of the big impact programs being implemented by DSWD. The SEA-K is a component of the Sustainable Livelihood Program of DSWD which provides livelihood trainings and seed capital to economically-active poor.

Pantawid Pamilya, on the other hand, provides cash grants to poor households provided they comply with the health and education requirements of the program.

Nicholas Banquero, DSW6’s External Relations Officer for Sustainable Livelihood Program, said all recipients of the Globe package were chosen as they have existing sari-sari stores and they are active members of Pantawid Pamilya. (DSWD6/ Alma Jornadal-Estember)
