The Department of Social Welfare and Development turned over P9.2 million to four municipalities and three cities in Negros Occidental to implement their projects under the Bottom Up Budgeting (BUB).

The checks were handed over by DSWD Regional Director Ma. Evelyn B. Macapobre to local chief executives in BUB covered areas in Negros Occidental. The turn-over rites was witnessed by Gov. Alfredo Maranon.

In the absence of the local chief executives, the vice mayors and municipal treasurer received the checks.

Of the P9,223,376.90 BUB funds,  San Carlos City got the biggest chunk of the funds which amounted to P2,885,782.90.  It will be spent for the construction of three day care centers, playground equipment and mobile library.

The town of Calatrava followed next with P2,040,294 for the construction of three day care centers and evacuation center.

Bago City received P1,660,000 for their livelihood projects and the town of Murcia received P1,190,000 for the construction of two day care centers.  While, Escalante City received P1,067,500 for the construction of two day care centers.

BUB also provided P350,000 for the town Isabela for the construction of its women center and P90,000 for the construction of a child minding center in Candoni.

BUB also known as grassroot budgeting is an approach in preparing the budget proposal of agencies taking into consideration the development needs of poor cities and municipalities as identified in their local poverty reduction plans that shall be formulated with strong participation of basic sector organizations and civil society organizations./dswd6/Maricar M.
