DSWD6 turns over climate-resilience project to Cuartero LGU, awards cash aid to 200 partner-beneficiaries
The Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office VI (DSWD FO VI), through its Risk Resiliency Program—Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation (RRP-CCAM) of the Disaster Response Management Division (DRMD), successfully cond
ucted a project turnover and payout activity for 200 partner-beneficiaries of Project LAWA (Local Adaptation to Water Access) and Project BINHI (Breaking Insufficiency through Nutritious Harvest) in the municipality of Cuartero, Capiz.
The activity, held on May 21, 2025, in partnership with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Cuartero, marked a key milestone in the rollout of Project LAWA and BINHI in Region VI.
A ceremonial ribbon cutting was held to formally signify the turnover of the community-resilient projects from DSWD to the LGU.
Representing the agency was the head of Preparedness for Disaster Response Section, Renante M. Lasay, who led the turnover and delivered a message highlighting the program’s objectives of enhancing disaster resilience and livelihood security in vulnerable communities.
Lasay urged both the LGU and the beneficiaries to sustain the gains of the project, reinforcing its goal of fostering community resilience and long-term self-sufficiency.
As part of the celebration, beneficiaries showcased “Project Lab Ko-bo,” a creative exhibit of a miniature payag or traditional meeting hut, symbolizing a space for community dialogue and collaboration.
The exhibit also featured photo displays of their Cash-for-Work and -Training (CFWT) activities, accomplishments, and personal stories of transformation.
Cultural presentations by community groups highlighted the role of the projects in preserving local identity and promoting social cohesion.
A pledge of support was signed by the LGU of Cuartero and the partner-beneficiaries, affirming their shared responsibility in sustaining the project’s impact, particularly in the areas of disaster risk reduction, environmental stewardship, and community empowerment.
The event gathered key stakeholders and LGU officials who were instrumental in the project’s implementation.
Following the turnover, DSWD FO VI personnel and LGU officials conducted field monitoring visits in the barangays of Bun-od and Sinabsaban to assess ongoing project outcomes.
The event culminated with the distribution of cash payouts to 200 partner-beneficiaries, each receiving PHP 9,600 as compensation for completing the 20-day CFWT program.
The partner-beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for the agency’s continuing support, noting the program’s contribution to improving their living conditions and disaster preparedness.
The success of the event underscores the importance of collaborative governance and active community involvement in delivering sustainable and transformative social protection programs.
