SLP association launches e-bike transport service project in Culasi

The ERPAT (Empowerment and Reaffirmation of Paternal Abilities) Association, organized by the Deparment of Social Welfare and Development through Sustainable Livelihood Program, launched its transport service project in Culasi, Antique.

The 18 units of e-bikes with sidecars, one for each male member of the association, provide the answer to the community needs of both students and residents alike from Barangay Esperanza, where a housing settlement is located.

As heads of the family they expressed the need for a sustainable project that would give them a daily source of income. The e-bike transport service which they proposed as their project was provided with a seed capital fund amounting to Php360,000.

The students usually walk to reach the highway to get to school. With the transport, they will be protected from extreme heat especially during the summer season. This will also cater to the needs of farmers who need to transport their products to the terminal along the highway to bring their produce to the Poblacion market.

Another notable feature of this project is its being gender-friendly. The ERPAT member, usually the father or head of the family is the main driver but at times when he is not available, any member of the household, as long as he or she is 18 years old and above may drive the vehicle. Thus, contributing to the daily income flow to respond to children’s needs in school and food for the family.

The Regional Partnership Officer Merlan Lanusga and four Provincial Technical Staff members, led by Provincial Team Leader Noli G. Valenzuela and Provincial Coordinator for Special Concerns and Referrals Geralyn B.
Flores attended the launching and distribution of the e-bikes. Inspired by their SLPA President Romnec C. Macuja, the association members celebrated their achievement with heartfelt gratitude, marking a significant milestone in their journey toward empowerment and success. This initiative by SLP through Implementing PDO Staff Maria Aurea Pascua, was wholeheartedly supported by the Local Government Unit of Culasi./NAGEbojo/ Terry C. Sitchon and Doris V. Cervera
