Former 4Ps Monitored Child is now a Licensed Engineer, Top 2 in February 2025 MELE

Testimony of Engr. Ivan Joey Gadot
Magna Cum Laude

GUIMARAS – I am Engr. Ivan Joey Gadot of San Lorenzo, Guimaras. Luckily, I placed 2nd in the February 2025 Mechanical Engineering Licensure Examination. However, whatever I have achieved, all these came from perseverance, hard work, and dedication.

I’m not from a well-off family. I have four siblings and I am the eldest. My father is a mechanician while my mother is a dressmaker and a volunteer Barangay Health Worker. So, I would say that sometimes my family struggles financially. During those times, we have to prioritize our needs over other things like in-school curricular activities. I am Grateful that our household became a beneficiary of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps). It help us during those times since I was one of the program-monitored children and it did help me finish high school.

During Grade 12, I was lucky enough to pass the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) scholarship exam to get a scholarship. Going into college I had no idea what I would encounter in Iloilo City. I applied for an engineering course at Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT-U) and luckily passed it.

Then the pandemic came. Everything was so hard at that time, financially and morally. When the semester started it was very difficult for me since I was isolated and had no friends going to college, so I had to strive on my own. Middle of the 2nd Semester during my 1st year, I almost quit my program because it was too hard for me and I thought to myself I was not good enough for engineering but luckily I was able to pass it. Fast forward a few years later and face-to-face classes resumed, I met new friends and enjoyed my college life. After graduating from college, I decided to review for the board exam. We went to Cebu for six months. It was tough living there since you’re far from your family.

Unexpectedly, I got dengue and had an upper respiratory infection. I was close to going home and was doubting myself if I could pass the exam. But somehow, I said to myself I needed to do this so that the effort and time wouldn’t be wasted. So I stayed there and by God’s grace, I fully recovered.

Going into the day of the board exam it was tough. The first day, I was praying and hoping to pass and God did hear it so right now, I’m an engineer.

Hope this victory will open more doors and opportunities for me. I hope that this will make me a helpful agent in helping the community and the people since it’s our main goal. I also hope that this story will inspire others especially my fellow 4Ps beneficiaries to continue striving in life as your efforts will soon be rewarded.

In November of last year, the Gadot family graduated from the program due to Level III or self-sufficient level of well-being. (Prepared by San Lorenzo MOO, Guimaras POO)
