DSWD-6 conducts “Balik Eskwela Activity“ to the IPs community in Guimbal
GUIMBAL, Iloilo – The Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office VI (DSWD FO VI) through the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) and in partnership with Tib-ong Kabataan, conducted a Balik Eskwela Outreach Activity to the Indigenous Peoples (IPs) Community in Sitio Igtugba, Brgy. Camangahan, Guimbal, and Iloilo Friday last week.
This is in celebration of the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, which is observed on August 9, 2024, each year to raise awareness and protect the rights of the world’s indigenous population. This event also recognizes the achievements and contributions that Indigenous people make to improve world issues such as environmental protection.
Through the activity, at least 40 elementary students of Igmedio Drapiza IP Elementary School received school supplies and storybooks while 46 families from the said sitio also availed hygiene kits and food packs.
According to 4Ps IPs Focal Person Mylyne Divera who is also a member of Tig-ong Kabataan, the school supplies given to the IPs children were also on their wish list that they can use in their daily school activities. She added that all the chosen recipients are 4Ps beneficiaries.
Divera also expressed her hope that this initiative may reach more IP communities in the region and may be a continuous project with more collaborations with partners in the future.
“I pray that we can reach more communities because we want to make our IPs feel that they are not left out. That our government loves them and does not abandon them.
Meanwhile, Tib-ong Kabataan is a SEC-registered youth organization that aims to help address issues regarding health, environment, and civic awareness of the vulnerable sectors, including the indigenous people community.
