ROXAS CITY – Raised in the seafood capital of the Philippines – Capiz, this boy at a young age, dreamed of escaping the grip of poverty that bound his family. Growing up with only one to two pesos for daily allowance during elementary school, he faced immense challenges.

In high school, financial struggles often forced him to miss classes. The burden persisted through college, where he knew his parents were in debt to meet the family’s needs. However, his unwavering dedication, coupled with government programs, particularly the 4Ps, fueled his determination to transform his circumstances and shape the person he is today.

The person that we are talking about here is Dr. Jimson A. Degracia, a Senior High School Teacher III at Capiz National High School wherein his extraordinary journey was marked by inspiration, dedication, and remarkable accomplishments through the help of 4Ps. He may not be directly the monitored child of the program but he is always part of whatever benefits the program gives to their household on top of the cash grants that his three siblings and nephews are receiving.

Starting his educational journey at Marcos Fuentes Elementary School as Class Valedictorian, Dr. Degracia pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education with a major in Biological Sciences at Capiz State University as Cum Laude. His firm belief in equitable education for all students shaped his educational philosophy. Recognizing the evolving needs of students in the digital age, he pioneered an electronic learning portal, bridging traditional teaching methods with modern technology.

Beyond the classroom, he coached students particularly 4Ps in various contests and events, guiding them to numerous victories in science and environmental competitions. His expertise in pedagogical approaches and educational strategies earned him recognition as a Division and Regional Demonstrator.

His scholarly pursuits led him to present research on Robotics and earn a Doctor of Philosophy in Science Education with Highest Distinction through a Department of Science and Technology (DOST) scholarship. Dr. Degracia’s global recognition as an Outstanding Educator and leader in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics reflects his commitment to academic and scientific excellence.

Notably, his devotion extends to environmental stewardship and faith, where he led the Senior Naturalists Club and served the church community. Dr. Degracia’s journey, from humble beginnings to international acclaim, demonstrates the transformative power of education and underscores the potential of unwavering dedication. He serves as an inspiration and a living testament to the impact of the government’s pro-poor programs, reflecting the profound influence educators and institutions can wield in shaping the future.

His performances gained positive impacts resulting in his series of promotions at the Department of Education (DepEd) and reached his goal in life and family. Finally, his family graduated from the program and tagged as Level 3 with improved well-being in the year 2022 but his desire and dedication to help the needy people will always be there.

Despite their graduation from the program, Dr. Degracia, an active representative of DepEd, is committed to paying back whatever help given by the government to them by rendering public service that benefits his people, community, and program.

PEOPLE

Dr. Gegracia is currently providing knowledge, skills, and support to my fellow beneficiaries, such as teaching livelihood skills or assisting in their education. Strengthening their appreciation of self-improvement and self-sufficiency.

COMMUNITY

He is also rendering services and programs that help the development of the community, such as conducting environmental-related missions, clean-up drives, or skills training for young people. Providing opportunities for residents to be an active part of community development.

PROGRAM

Dr. Degracia is also providing support to the beneficiaries of the 4Ps program by being part of teaching livelihood skills and financial literacy. Strengthening their ability to be productive and contribute to society. Through the cooperation and collaboration of all sectors, we can strengthen the development of our neighbors, community, and also government programs like 4Ps.
