ANTIQUE — The Pantawid Pamilya Gulayan in Barangay Naba, Culasi Antique started on December 2016. The gulayan was initiated by Mrs. Melani Bucaoco, a Parent Leader of Barangay Naba. The beneficiaries collaborated with Naba Elementary School headed by the School Principal Marichu Tobias for the location of the backyard garden. Each member of the parent group provided sprouts /seedlings from their own backyard. They planted different vegetables such as camote, saluyot, alugbati, gabi, eggplant, ampalaya and okra. In order to maintain the garden, the group assigned “officers of the day” that would be in-charged in watering and cultivating the garden.

The gulayan aims to respond to the need of the Pantawid Pamilya beneficiaries who are deficient in nutrients that lack of resources to buy vitamins and food supplements. Aside from responding to the nutritional needs of beneficiaries, the parent group is also selling their produce. The proceed goes to the fund that the members use for other expenses such as photocopy of documents and transportation of Parent Leader or other members to attend meetings at the Municipal Operations Office.

This initiative strengthened the camaraderie, cooperation, and voluntarism of each member as well as with its local school partner. //dswd6/Antique POO
