The Department of Social Welfare and Development 6 (DSWD-6) has been recognizing media partners in helping advocate for the welfare of the poor and vulnerable sector through disseminating reliable information on DSWD services and programs particularly the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program.

Recently, 30 media practitioners and outlets were awarded for Best Supportive Media Partners as each of them played a major role in the upliftment of lives and empowerment of Ilonggo households.

Among the government agency awardees were Philippine Information Agency 6, Iloilo and Capiz Information Centers, Iloilo and Antique Philippine News Agency (PNA).

Most supportive TV stations were UNTV, ABS-CBN and IBC TV12. Radio Mindanao Network (RMN)-Iloilo, Bombo Radyo-Iloilo, Aksyon Radyo, DYSI Super Radyo, and Radyo Pilipinas were also among the awardees.

Also, awardees in print media were the following; Panay News, Iloilo Metropolitan Times, The Daily Guardian, The Capiz Times and News Express.

Individual special awards were also given Elena Pabiona of Radyo Pilipinas, Cindy Ferrer of PNA-Iloilo, Elyrose Naorbe, Jennifer Ponsaran and Maricyn De Los Santos, all of The Daily Guardian, Vincent Arboleda of UNTV, Joel Franco of RMN-Iloilo, Leonard Pineda and Lilibeth French, all of Iloilo Infocen, Marie Katherine Villalon, blogger, Tara Katherine Yap of Manila Bulletin and Jun Aguirre of Business Mirror. Each awardee received a plaque of recognition.

Pabiona of Radyo Pilipinas and President of Iloilo Provincial Capitol Press Corps, said that this prestigious award, indeed a sign of stronger partnership with the Department.

“We will continue to help the Department on its advocacy campaign specially that poor, disadvantaged and vulnerable sector are among the top priority”, she said.

On her part, Naorbe thanked DSWD for recognizing media people as part of our service projects.

“Thank you DSWD-6 for this recognition. Let’s continue to be partners in service”, he said.

WRITESHOP

Prior to the awarding night, a Media Writeshop on Advocacy Journalism was conducted. Around 50 participants had attended the one-day writeshop with Dr. Ian Espada of West Visayas State University as one of the resource persons. //dswd.6/Montesa G. Caoyonan
