SAN JOSE, Antique – The Department of Social Welfare and Development 6 has released more than P6 Million out of P18 Million funds to the beneficiaries of the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) of Antique.
Regional Director Rebecca Geamala said the amount was downloaded to the department through the efforts of Senator Loren Legarda. Geamala also said the P6 Million was given to 16 different SLP Associations in the province to fund various enterprises of their members of which, majority of them are 4Ps beneficiaries.
“We are hoping that with the livelihood assistance given to them, they will able to create developmental wonders in the lives of the project beneficiaries especially to 4Ps,” she said.
Geamala added that the DSWD in collaboration with different partners from the Local Government Units, National Government Agencies, academe, health and even Non-Government Organizations will continue to assist these associations to ensure that government assistance is being managed accordingly to achieve positive livelihood outcomes and thereby helping in improving the quality of life of every family assisted under SLP and other programs of DSWD and of other duty bearers.
A total of 41 SLP Associations has been organized in 2017 for the said funding. Each newly organized association from across the 17 mainland municipalities of Antique were given the opportunity to prepare for their own project proposals depending on the supply and demand of goods and services in their respective areas. With that, they were also given the leeway onto how much amount would their projects need in order to be implemented for sustainability.
Warren Escaner, President of Ugwad Belison South Livelihood Association in the Municipality of Belison said their association has chosen to raise cattle, hogs and native chicken as their livelihood.
“With the fund given to us, we could already start our livelihood. It means additional income to our existing livelihood,” he said.
Ugwad Belison Association has now 100 active members.//dswd6./Diody Fadullan and Montesa Grino-Caoyonan
