Geamala reminds Ilonggos to value family
THE head of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office VI called on Ilonggos to give value to their families.
“With many challenges confronting the familiies, it is important the we pause, reflect and be thankful for the families that we have,” said Rebecca P. Geamala, regional director, during the opening the Family Week Celebration last Saturday (As 23) at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol ground.
The week-long celebration kicked off with an opening Fun Walk participated by close to a thousand persons from Plaza Libertad to Iloilo Provincial Capitol Ground followed by a program.
This year’s theme is “25th National Family Week: Tungo sa Maginhawa, Matatag at Panatag na Pamilyang Pilipino.”
Geamala pointed out to challenges on long distance relationships, of family heads leaving the family behind and of globalization to the situation of families in the society today.
“We need to remind families to surpass all kinds of challenges, maintain communication and keep a family with strong ties. The family is the basic unit of the society and thus will always be our support system,” she said.
During the program, a Zumba among families, games and special numbers were conducted.
Also, Rosell Tacda, a winner of the Search for Huwarang Pantawid Pamilya gave her testimony.
Tacda encouraged families to be involved in their respective communities by extending voluntary service.
Drug surrenderees also gave testimonies saying that there is life after addiction to illegal drugs as long one submit himself to rehabilitation.
