Music has been his strength since he was transferred to Regional Rehabilitation Center for Youth (RRCY).
He was 17 years old when he allegedly got into a fight that claimed one life.
A shy-type Miko (not his real name) expressed his feelings through his composed lyrics just to have an outlet for his regrets and loneliness. These were usually intended for his loved ones.
However as the days passed, Miko joined the RRCY band and is now one of the vocalists. He was able to compose two songs entitled “Sana Dito Ka Lang” and “Break up” which are usually played during special occasions inside the rehabilitation center.
The songs are dedicated to his family, which Miko wishes could be reunited.
His longing for a family is being filled ip by the RRCY staff who serve as houseparents. Miko, along with other kids, call them “Nanay” and “Tatay”.
The interventions undertaken inside the rehabilitation have inspired Miko to continue college after passing the Alternative Learning System (ALS).
Miko wantsto be a police officer to protect and serve the people especially to defend the innocent.
For him, being at the rehabilitation is an opportunity to renew his life.
Also, it is a way for him to find another family – in the faces of the staff of the center.
“I can say and claim that the center staff form my family too,” he said.//dswd//Montesa Grino-Caoyonan
