She’s one in a million. With the untimely demise of her husband Jose Saiton in the year 1993, she became the father and mother to her only daughter Annabelle Saiton.
She is Lorenza Saiton, 70 years of age and a resident of Brgy. Rizal Pala-Pala Zone 2, Iloilo City.
With her husband gone, life became cruel to Lorenza Saiton.
But she stood strong and was able to surpass the life challenges thrown her way. From her small income from managing a small “ Sari-Sari” store, she was able to send her daughter to a Vocational School in College.
The rest of her income was used to buy other things that they need, such as food and medicines.
It was like a big relief to her when the time came when her income was not enough to support their needs was also the time when she became a beneficiary of the Social Pension Program of DSWD Region 6.
The said program is conducted by DSWD Region 6 that aims in helping indigent elderly.
Lola lorenza used the money to start a small business in form of a Sari- Sari Store.
Now regularly receiving a P1,500 every three months, Lola Lorenza uses the money to buy essential stuffs in her small “Sari-Sari Store” so that the money that is being given to her could also earn more.
She also uses the financial help to buy her own set of medicines, foods and other personal things that she needs because her daughter who is still living with her has a family of her own now.
“Gapasalamat gid ako kay tungod sa Social Pension Program sang DSWD Region 6, may kwarta ako nga idugang sa pagbakal sang akon nga bulong kag pagkaon,” she said./dswd6/Janine Tupino
