THE head of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) region 6 called on Ilonggos to give time to their family.
“Home is still the safest place on earth. So spend time with your family,” said Rebecca P. Geamala, regional director.
Geamala spoke in front of agency workers based in Panay Island during the “Family Fun Day” held at the office compound in Molo, Iloilo City.
She urged families to foster the bond that they have despite the distance that current demands pose among members.
She cited the challenges of families not being together because of the need to work abroad.
“Despite challenges, we should learn how to communicate and nurture our family ties,” she said.
Meanwhile, Dr. Ma. Mercedes Monsale of Commission on Higher Education, who was a guest speaker during the event gave tips on ensuring a healthy husband-wife relationship.
“Open communication is important. The husband and wife and the children must have open lines to talk to each other,” she said.
Monsale also urged families to pray together. “When you entrust everything to the higher power, you will never be misguided.”
She said that doing things together like dining out and watching movies are good ways of bonding.
“We also play with our children. Our neighbors would know when we are complete at home because we can be noisy. We play with our kids,” she said.
This week marks the Family week with the theme, “Matatag na pamilya, maunlad na bukas.”
It was opened with a parade and a zumba led by the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints September 24. Today’s event, hosted by the DSWD Social Marketing Unit in partnership with Social Welfare Employees Association of the Philippines (SWEAP) and Human Resource Unit culminated the event./dswd6
