The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) field office 6 released a total of P1.7 million to the province of Capiz recently.
The amount was distributed to three municipalities including Pontevedra with P588,350 for 205 beneficiaries; Pan-ay, P315,700 for 110 beneficiaries; and Roxas City, P760,550 for 265 beneficiaries.
A total of 580 beneficiaries received P2,870 each in checks under the Cash for Work program.
Cash-for-work is a short-term intervention to provide temporary employment to distressed or displaced individuals by participating in or undertaking preparedness, mitigation, relief, rehabilitation or risk reduction projects and activities in their communities or in evacuation centers.
In the case of beneficiaries in Capiz, they worked on rebuilding their houses.
The Cash for work program was provided by the agency to complement the Core Shelter Assistance Program (CSAP) provided by DSWD and the UN Habitat.
The beneficiaries earlier received P70,000 from the agency to build their houses.
Ms. Rosario A. Sanagustin, Social Welfare Officer V of DSWD region 6, stated that the cash grant is an incentive to motivate the people to build their own homes.
