The Department of Social Welfare and Development will be providing family food packs to families who are in evacuation centers in the different provinces of the region as per instruction from DSWD Secretary Corazon J. Soliman.
This following the preemptive evacuation implemented by the government of families living in areas susceptible to storm surge/flooding and landslides in anticipation for the landfall of “Super Typhoon” Yolanda.
As of 2:00 PM today (December 6), records of the DSWD regional office show that there are already 7,491 families in evacuation centers. This figure comprised 1,731 families in Capiz; 167 families in Guimaras; 4,077 families in Iloilo and 1,516 families in Negros Occidental.
Presently, there is a total of 19,783 family food packs prepositioned in the six provinces of the region broken down as follows: Aklan – 13,000 family packs; Antique – 2,250 family packs; Capiz -1,250 family packs; Iloilo – 2,400 family packs and Negros Occidental – 883 family packs. As of this writing, most of these family packs were already released to the local government units, who will distribute them to families who will be affected by the typhoon./dswd6/Wenna B. Bendol
