ROXAS CITY–The Department of Social Welfare in Development, in partnership with UN Habitat for Humanity, is implementing a core shelter project for families in this city who lost their homes to Typhoon Yolanda.

Recently, the DSWD 6, through Regional Director Ma. Evelyn B. Macapobre released a total of P6,020,000.00 to 86 residents of Barangay Milibili, Roxas City whose houses were totally damaged by the “super typhoon” last year.

One of the beneficiaries, Jocelyn Salido, thanked both agencies for helping them put up their home, which they already transferred to before the very recent Typhoon Ruby came.

“We felt safe in our new home during the typhoon. We are very grateful. We never imagined we would have a house like that,” she said dialect, comparing their old bamboo and wood house to the new one, which is made of concrete.

Each of the 86 family beneficiaries received P70,000.00 worth of check as the DSWD’s counterpart for the housing project. Each unit of house is worth P135,000.00. The remaining amount was provided by Habitat.

Macapobre said the project is an example of active partnership between the government and civil society organization. “Our former problem, which we could not seem to find a solution, is now solved because we are helping each other.”/dswd6/Wenna B. Bendol
