THE Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office VI (DSWD6) provided immediate assistance to 22 local government units in Negros Occidental and Roxas City which were affected by Typhoon Yolanda.

Records of DSWD show that as of noontime of November 8, a total of 3,265 foods packs were distributed to families affected in Roxas City and in San Carlos City, Calatrava, Escalante City, Toboso, Sagay City, Cadiz City, Victorias City, EB Magalona, Manapla, Talisay City, Kabankalan City, Ilog, Himamaylan, Binalbagan, Isabela, Moises Padilla, Bago City, Hinoba-an, Sipalay City, Pontevedra and Cauayan all in Negros Occidental province. Each food pack consists of three kilos of rice and nine assorted canned goods.

The total amount of goods that were distributed so far was pegged at P852,165.

DSWD regional director Ma. Evelyn B. Macapobre said the agency will continue to provide augmentation relief to LGUs. A standby fund of P5 million was downloaded to the DSWD6 for disaster response and 10,000 sacks of rice are currently being repacked and readied for distribution.

The DSWD has also monitored 9,272 families inside 78 evacuation centers in the region. (DSWD6/Alma Jornadal-Estember)
