TO extend immediate assistance to the victims of super typhoon Yolanda, the regional office of the Department of Agriculture (DA) entered into a partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office VI (DSWD) for its “Food First Project.”

According to DA Regional Executive Director Larry P. Nacionales, the DA “pooled its resources and came up with a savings of P3.58 million for the purchase of goods for immediate distribution” to the victims of the super typhoon specifically for the towns in northern Iloilo, Capiz, Aklan and Antique.

Nacionales turned over the goods to DSWD6 Regional Director Ma. Evelyn B. Macapobre on November 15, 2013 after the signing of the memorandum of agreement.

Macapobre said the DA turned over 6,000 trays of eggs; 40,000 cans of sardines; 140,000 packs of noodles; and 200 bags of well-milled rice packed at two kilos per pack.

Macapobre expressed gratitude to the partnership with DA. As of November 15, the DSWD6 has released more than 78,000 food packs and 49 sacks of rice to the six provinces in Western VIsayas amounting to P20.5 million. (DSWD6/ Alma Jornadal-Estember)
