SWD6 showcases locally products of IPs from Iloilo, GuimarasILOILO City – Indigenous Peoples (IPs) from the provinces of Iloilo and Guimaras are showcasing their locally produced and handcrafted products at the Indigenous Peoples’ Bazaar held inside the DSWD Field Office VI compound in Molo, Iloilo City today.
The bazaar is organized by the 4Ps Division–Regional Program Management Office, headed by Division Chief Belen P. Gebusion and IP Focal Person Maylyn Devera, with the participation of various IP associations, most of whom are 4Ps beneficiaries. This initiative, which started in 2022, aims to support and promote the livelihood of IPs as they continue to be integrated into the broader community.
During the program, Assistant Regional Director for Operations Katherine Joy M. Lamprea commended the creativity and craftsmanship of the participating IP groups. She highlighted that their handmade products are a testament to their resilience and cultural pride.
“4Ps is not only about providing grants; the program also strives to create opportunities for beneficiaries to discover their talents, develop their skills, and strengthen each household’s capacity to stand independently,” she said.
Dir. Lamprea also expressed gratitude to the IP associations for sharing their products.
“Each item on display tells a story such as one of cooperation, mutual support, and the collective pursuit of better lives for their families and children,” she added.
RECOGNITION
Participating IP associations were also given token and certificate of recognition namely: Nagpana Minority Associations (NAMIAS); Guimaras Ati Weavers Association, Inc. (GAWAI); Leon Bukidnon Community, and Calinog Ati Tribe Indigenous Craft Makers Association (CATICMA).
The event forms part of the 2025 Indigenous Peoples Month celebration, as the Department joins in commemorating the 28th anniversary of the Indigenous Peoples’ Rights Act (IPRA) with this year’s theme: “Weaving Culture, Enriching Future: Empowering Indigenous Communities as Bedrock of Sustainable Development.”/mgc (Photos credit to SDA Focal Lobe Rose Chua)
