68 4Ps Parent Leaders undergo leadership capacity training

NEW WASHINGTON, Aklan – Sixty-eight Parent Leaders (PLs) of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) underwent a Capability-Building Leadership Training in partnership with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of New Washington early this month.

Mayor Shimonette P. Francisco, in her message, highlighted the crucial role of PLs in the successful implementation of the program. She stressed that Parent Leaders serve as vital partners and community workforce of the field implementers, making it essential to strengthen their skills through continuous training.

“We recognize your efforts as community leaders and volunteers who selflessly serve your fellow beneficiaries toward the improvement of this program,” she said, assuring the PLs and the 4Ps team of her full support in all their initiatives.

Also present was Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer (MSWDO) Marichu R. Dantes, who has been extending consistent support to the program, particularly in its logistical concerns.

Members of the Technical Working Group from the Aklan Provincial Operations Office (Aklan POO) led by Provincial Link Stephen Suajico facilitated a series of lectures covering key 4Ps systems. The sessions focused on self-awareness, leadership, Beneficiary Data Management System, Grievance Redress System, Kilos Unlad Framework, Compliance Verification System, and the important roles of PLs as catalysts for positive change in their communities.

SDA Focal Person Nirvana Dominique F. Bulacan also emphasized the purpose of the Family Development Session (FDS), underscoring the value of self-awareness in effective leadership.

To cap the training, a wellness activity was organized for the Parent Leaders, giving them time to relax and build camaraderie. The event ended with the singing of the unity song “Hawak Kamay” which symbolizing solidarity in their shared mission to uplift their households and communities.

Jeneline Dela Cruz, 37, PL of Brgy. Guinbaliwan emphasized her active role as a parent leader in the implementation of the program.
Through her participation, she aimed to adhere to the instructions provided by the Municipal Link, focusing on promoting teamwork and fostering harmonious relationships among her team members.

As her commitment, she is encouraging more children to stay in school, believing that the support from the government should not be wasted but rather invested in human capital like 4Ps.

On her part, Mary Lee Reyes, 34, also PL in Brgy Fatima, also expressed her gratitude for the program and the opportunity to be part of this capability training. Reyes said she feels a sense of excitement about sharing her learnings with her members and applying the knowledge she had gained.

Committed to adhering to the program’s directives, she aimed to excel in her role as PL. One of her primary challenges was managing members who could be quite stubborn. However, she recognized that as a leader, it was essential to exercise patience and continue guiding those members.
Through this training, she understood that effective leadership required respecting each individual’s differences and fostering an environment of mutual respect. (Written by SDA Focal Person Nirvana Bulacan, Aklan POO)
