LAMBUNAO, Iloilo – The Department of Social Welfare and Development 6 through the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program in partnership with the West Visayas State University- Lambunao Campus conducted two separate trainings on Parent Leaders (PL) as Family Development Session (FDS) Facilitators at the Audio Visual Hall of the school campus in Lambunao, Iloilo.

The training dubbed “PL na Titser Pa” has started on Monday to Wednesday (March 11-13) for the first batch with 69 participants while the second batch on Thursday to Saturday (March 14-16) targeted around 70 participants.  

All participants are coming from the said town only which composed of PLs, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and other partner government agencies such as the Philippine National Police (PNP), Local Government Unit, and among others.

HELPS Program Leader Dr. Jaime Latoza was the one who developed the module for PL under their HELPS for 4Ps program of Wvsu-Lc Office of Extension and Training.

According to DSWD Training Specialist II Richard Dean Layon, the participants were trained on how to facilitate and develop a module on FDS based on the localized result of the developmental needs analysis.

“They were guided with no other than the dean, faculties and professors of the College of Education. It is a peer to peer approach on the basic tenets of teaching and module development,” said Layon, who is one of the training facilitators.

Furthermore, Layon said that part of the sustainability of this engagement is to assign one practice teacher to one PL to ensure that the principles of adult learning is being observed.

“At the end of the training, we are expecting that our partner beneficiaries will become empowered teacher in the community level which is worthy to be called as “PL NA TITSER PA”, Layon ended. //dswd6/MGC.
